So I got an iPod. 2 gb Nano 2nd gen - silver. So it has the matte aluminum finish which I really prefer to the glossy finish of the 1st gen Nanos and other versions. It doesn't get all smudged and fingerprint covered, and isn't as susceptible to scratches. It's pretty sweet. I didn't realize that they started putting games on them (meh). It has a nice color screen, and I threw some pictures on there just to see how it was, and it looks pretty dang nice.

I went through and started converting my music to mp3 format to use on it, and I managed to fill 400 mb so far... I guess I need to just start converting my entire CD collection, since I've got more room than I know what to do with. I'll try to put a picture up on here later today.

I have a lot of beefs with Apple and how they operate in the industry, but I am unable to deny that have the best industrial designers. All the way down to the packaging they pay attention to every detail. The iPod interface is beautifully efficient and intuitive. I looked for other music players for a while, but I decided I shouldn't punish myself with an inferior product just because I didn't like some of the things Apple does. And since I use Linux I don't have to deal with (shudder) iTunes, or the crappy DRM they enforce.

vive la liberte.

Late night cleaning

Yes, late night cleaning. I kind of decided today that the apartment I live in is a filthy, disgusting mess, and looks like a bunch of slovenly college guys live here. Sadly that is apparently the case. Notice that I said "the apartment I live in", I didn't want to say "my apartment" because then it would appear that the filth is my fault. It's not. I've cleaned the kitchen 5 times in the past 4 days. On average I spend maybe 3 hours a day in my apartment apart from sleeping. The rest of my time is spent either on campus or at Allie's. So today I cleaned the kitchen, again, swept the floor, spot mopped the floor, cleaned the living room, threw away a whole bunch of garbage that has been sitting around for weeks, organized the freezer, threw away old food, vacuumed the living room, dusted, and made cookies and brownies for munch and mingle tomorrow. As well as went grocery shopping, and the mall, and watched a movie with Allie. As I seem to be the only one that cleans, I've decided that I don't feel guilty about vacuuming at 1:15 am. I figure, if no one else will clean when it's convenient for them, then I'll clean when it's convenient for me.....

On a sadder note, it looks like the project I've been working on for the last 4 months isn't going to be finished. I'm missing some experience that I need to get it finished quickly, and my boss doesn't want me spending any more time on it. The bright side is that he wants me to pick my own area of research that I'm interested in and start doing something interesting. Unfortunately, I don't know what that is yet.....

Classes start tomorrow. I don't particularly want them to yet, I want a few more days break....

Break was good. I went home to Cromwell for a while. Everyone was home for Christmas for what will probably be the last time in a long while. I haven't been able to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii yet, so I'm still working on that.

I went to Maryland for a few days to visit Allie and her family. I really enjoyed the trip. We saw the WWII memorial, the FDR memorial, and the Spy Museum. The Spy Museum was decent, it would more appropriately be called the Spy History Museum. They could have gone into much more detail about many things. It was a fairly glossed over, created for general public consumption kind of thing. They would talk about things that have specific names, but not use the names (like Stenography). We ate lunch at The Cheesecake Factory on one day, it was good. On the day I got there we went to the Visitor's Center at the Washington D.C. temple and helped take down Christmas decorations. We wandered around the Lake Forest Mall one day, I bought a shirt and track jacket from Express. I met Allie's family and two of her friends (Heather and Mary Beth). They are all really nice people, even if Sam was a little bit over protective about me dating his sister. The weather was fantastic, like 65 degrees. We were walking around the mall in January with no coats on and it was totally comfortable.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to do graduate school this fall and an internship this summer, or just start working full time in April, or some combination of the above... Basically I don't know what I want to do with my life. Maybe I'll figure it out soon, maybe not; we'll see. If you have any thoughts, feel free to comment.
