Google Street View: Provo

I just stumbled upon the fact that most of Provo is now available under Google Maps Street View. It's lots of fun. From what I can tell the imagery was all taken during summer 2007, like June-July. I can tell because in some of the pictures you can see the smoke from the fire at the mouth of Provo Canyon which occurred June 27-29-ish.

I thought I found my car near where I used to live, but it wasn't, very close though.

It's fun to look around, you can tell when the images were obtained on Sundays because there are no cars in the retail parking lots.

On a completely unrelated note: I went to the Utah Symphony last night when they performed Peer Gynt. It was very good.

Sore Tail Bone

My ward played broom hockey on Friday night at 7 Peaks. It was a lot of fun. I was doing so well with not falling down until about 20 minutes before it was over. I overextended my broom, lost balance, and fell smack on my tail bone. Hard. So hard that my head went all wonky for a minute. I must have hit hard enough to jolt my brain against my skull. My hearing sort of cut out, and my vision went all tunnelly. Yes, I just made up the word "tunnelly". Maybe it was just adrenaline being dumped into my blood stream, but regardless I stumbled off the ice and felt woozy for 10 minutes or so. Then I went back and played the last 10 minutes. When I got home I discovered that I had a new blind spot in my vision. Just to the right of my center of focus. It made reading difficult since your brain interprets words a set at a time and not one at a time, but anything in between 8-14 characters to the right of my center was just gone. It was a very strange experience. Sentences just didn't make sense without lots of concentration. That went away after about 1.5 hours. I had a massive headache and butt hurt really bad when I went to bed, but things were much better Saturday morning.

I'm working on a new pet project with Josh right now. It's exciting because we think it actually has the potential to go somewhere. Maybe even make some money somewhere down the line. I'll let you know more about it once it's closer to being live.

Las Vegas Trip

Last weekend Josh and I took a trip down to Las Vegas as it was going to be the last chance to get out of Provo since he was starting a new job. Only having my two classes on M,W,F, we left Thursday morning, thus missing only one day of classes, during which I missed nothing because 400 level courses move very slowly (at least these two do anyways).

We arrived Thursday evening and spent the rest of the day at Josh's brother's place. On Friday we got up and made a trip to Fry's Electronics (I wish there was one in Utah). I picked up some rechargeable batteries, and an S-Video Wii cable (so I could finally hook it up through my stereo properly).

Upon leaving Fry's we headed to the Premium Outlets on the North end of the strip. To our surprise there was smoke rising from the strip, and we quickly discovered that the Monte Carlo was on fire:

After some shopping we went to the "Top of the World" restaurant at the Statosphere for lunch.
Josh was particularly excited about his burger:

I ordered the California Chicken sandwich or some such thing:

It's a nice restaurant requiring nice clothes in the evening, however it is casual dress for lunch.

On Saturday we went to the Bellagio and had some pastries from the Jean Phillippe Patisserie, very good. We had a chocolate eclair and a Napoleon:

As we headed home on Sunday morning we had to fight through the rain (luckily there wasn't any snow, as it was on Monday when I-15 was closed). Traffic was backed up a little bit at the North end of the strip because of this accident:

Northbound had 1 lane of traffic moving, but Southbound was completely stopped, messy messy.

That's my quick photo update for the day. Tomorrow I have to pick Mom up from the airport for another stay in Utah, this time so she can babysit for Erin while she studies for the Bar Exam.
