So I went hiking here this morning:
Silver Lake Outlook

It was awesome. So beautiful. I really enjoyed the hike up, and Josh's car performed like a beast getting there and back. Hope your Memorial Day was as pleasant as mine.

Oh, and the new anti-spam measures are working beautifully. Not a single spam posting since I implemented the new system.

New Anti-Spam Measures
19 May 2006 @ 11:41 AM MST
Current Music: None
Current Mood: Content
I've added a new anti-spam measure to the comment adding section. It's quite simple, and will really only stop the least determined spammer. It will prevent a spam bot from adding comments, unless the person behind it takes the trouble to look at my site, see what the protective measure is, and exploit it. For you regular people, just look at the little sentence above the Submit button, and you'll figure it out.

I decided to add this today because of the spam war I just ended. A bot got on the site, and started spamming everything for about 2 hours. I was fighting it the whole time, until I decided to disable comments until I fixed the problem. So if for some reason you tried to post a comment in the last 2 hours, and couldn't; that's what happened. But commenting has been fully re-enabled, so you should be good to go.

Bush Administration Strikes Again
12 May 2006 @ 12:10 AM MST
Current Music: The Fugees - Ready or Not
Current Mood: Angered
Once again, the Bush Administration is spying on US citizens. It seems that most of the major telecommunication companies have willingly turned over billions of phone records to the NSA for cataloging, and data mining. (Note: Two companies refused to comply: Qwest and TMobile, Bravo). But don't worry, Bush has assured us that this is only to stop the evil al qaeda terrorists, who are obviously all around us, just waiting to kill us all.

His good Republican friends are defending him though, Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas says: "People should not be alarmed or surprised that intelligence analysts and law enforcement people use the business records or the telephone records of people -- not the content -- in regards to all sorts of things, whether you are a drug dealer, a child pornographer or a terrorist."

Wow, just wow. He got the trifecta of evils there: drugs, porn, and terrorism; all in one sentence. and not just any porn, child porn (Won't someone *please* think of the children!). We should all just turn around and grab our ankles so the Bush Administration can protect us from these evils, which obviously otherwise would destroy our lives before we even knew it was happening.

Our Legal System at work

Current Mood: Sickly....
CNN Reports on the conviction of the Band Manager for Great White, who started th pyrtechnics show in Rhode Island that killed 100 people. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison for 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter. Ok, fine. But apparently 4 years of his life is too little for him to pay for an accident that wasn't his fault, according to parents. They wanted him to serve the full sentence of 10 years, and were outraged at the fact that he is only sentenced to 4. This is a man who pleaded guilty, broke down crying in the court room, and has written letters of apology to every family affected by that fire. A fire, which only occurred because the club owners improperly installed highly flammable sound-proofing material.

I'm sure that the guilt he's feeling, and 4 years in prison, won't be enough for him to never ever use pyrotechnics again, he needs that extra 6 years of his life taken away, so that he'll learn his lesson good. What's wrong with people; do they really think that getting 'revenge' on this guy will make them feel better? It was an accident on all counts. This same pyrotechnics show had probably been performed hundreds of times as that band toured; the only reason things when wrong this time was because of the sound-proofing material. But let's all get blood thirsty and destroy his life... Amazingly enough the club owners are being charged with 200 counts of involuntary manslaughter each. That's right, in our legal system you can count 1 person twice somehow... At least this judge seemed to understand that this man would punish himself with guilt more than any penitentiary system would...

Summer has begun

I finished reading Return of the King yesterday. It's still as amazing as ever. Now I plan to watch the extended edition movies again, with sweet surround sound and blaringly large image from the projector, it will be awesome. I've also decided that to an interesting extent, the clothes do make the man. I can really enjoy my day if I put my contacts in, gel my hair, and put on some nice clothes. I don't know what it is, but the day just seems to go better. So my plan for this week is to have a file format sketched out for the Karaoke program. Once I get that decided, I'll write up an I/O routine to parse in the files, and print out the files. Then I'll work on the interface and such... it probably won't get very fancy, but hopefully it works.

Update on Life
4 May 2006 @ 11:09 PM MST
Current Music: Celtic Women - Orinoco Flow
Current Mood: Not too shabby
So, I'm not actually taking any classes during the spring/summer (except tennis during summer term). Instead I'll just be relaxing for the most part. I'll be in CT June 17-26 for all you who will be around. Other than that I'm just working 20 hours a week, reading, playing Ultimate with OremUltimate Spring League... The plan is to buy a guitar, and Josh and I will commit to daily practice sessions for the summer and see if we can't learn to play a bit. I also still want to start work on my Karaoke project, but that's slow moving so far, I think mostly cause I program at work every day, I don't feel like programming at home. Maybe once I'm done reading The Return of the King I'll take my laptop outside and start it up. Other plans: get a Linksys WRT54GL (wireless router) and hack it; get a Samsung ML-2551N (network laser printer).

Oh yah, I painted the bed frame that I have to loft my bed; and moved the extra bed out of the room, here's some pictures: Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3.
